I don’t understand why Kodak hasn’t been canceled already. We have cancelled bigger names for less. How did he creep through?
Doesn’t he have pending charges for rape? She’s a South Carolina High School student. And I mean rape, rape. The girl alleges he forced her on the bed then forced himself on her, despite her repeatedly saying no. He also bit her neck and right breast. But I can understand how he deserves due process, it’s their word against each other’s.
Then there was that time he said he prefers light skinned women because they are easier to breakdown. He said Keke Palmer was “straight” but he doesn’t do dark skinned women. I can’t be the only one who gasped when he showed up at an Essence event and told them “I can say what I want” when asked about his comment. He has made many disparaging comments about black women and is very vocal about his dating preference for non-black women. Everyone has a right to like what they like. He can find a better way to say it or don’t talk about it at all.
Just three months ago he said as long as Young M.A has a vagina, she can get his “D”. Young M.A is very open about who she is. He didn’t just say it once, he said it in his music, at his concerts, IG Live. I don’t know if he raped that girl but he’s definitely rapey. And we can’t keep excusing his pattern of behavior.
He’s beyond disrespectful. Yet, those around him, to include his record label and celebrity friends, don’t seem to be talking to him, or canceling him. He continues to put out music, make problematic comments and be given a platform to do it. There’s no way he should be allowed to have a platform in the wake of his most recent controversial comments about Lauren London.
He said “Lauren London, that’s my baby. She about to be out here single. She’s finna be a whole widow out here. I’ll be the best man I can be for her. I’ll give her a whole year to be crying and sh*t for him. I ain’t trying to shoot [my shot] at her. I’m saying, listen. She can do two, three years. I’ll try to be like the friend if you need to holla or a shoulder to lean on. She can call me line.”
Lauren London, who shares a child with Nipsey and a five year budding romance, is a grieving woman. His pending rape charges paint a sadistic man with no self-control. It’s no surprise he’s loudly talking recklessly about a woman who lost her protector. While Lauren would never even blink his way, the comment was still out of touch and tacky. Do I think there are men saying in private what he said so publicly? Yes. But I can’t cancel what I don’t hear and right now, he’s the loudest one in the room.
Whether you liked Nipsey’s music, what he stood for, or both, Nipsey’s death has hit hard for many reasons. The community is mourning.Nipsey is still above ground and Kodak says this?
We can’t cancel him? His record label can’t drop him? They don’t have to spin his music, do they? Jay-Z can’t make a call? There has to be someone powerful enough to make it stop. Kodak’s music isn’t great by a long shot and he’s toxic and uncouth. How do we make him a thing of the past?
For the culture.
